Resurgam presents the greatest musical drama of all time, Bach's St Matthew Passion, in Holy Week performances in Cavan, Kilkenny and Galway. At last this most famous of all choral masterpieces will be heard in Ireland in a manner as close as possible to that of Bach's day. The version used will be that used by Bach himself in the 1740s. The vocal forces are modelled on those available to Bach, and the soloists will be drawn from each of the two choirs. The players of the Irish Baroque Orchestra will be performing on period instruments. Irish audiences will hear for the first time the vivid colours and textures familiar to the vast crowds that packed the Leipzig churches in Bach's own time every Good Friday to hear this work.
